Colombian scientist who managed to synthesize a vaccine
against malaria. He graduated in 1970 from the National University of Colombia
and one year later he obtained his doctorate in medicine and surgery.
With a great interest in immunology and virology, so that
his professional career was oriented to research in various national and
foreign centers, particularly Americans and Swedes. At the National University,
he founded the Institute of Immunology at the San Juan de Dios Hospital, where
he developed research on lupus, genetic markers, leukemia, the genetic
susceptibility of rheumatic fever, tuberculosis and leprosy.
